Matthiessen State Park

Information- Named after Frederick William Matthiessen who operated the area as a private park in the early 1900's. When he passed away, the land was donated to the state.

TerrainMostly forested with a stream that flows through a deep canyon, creating many picturesque waterfalls. There is also a small lake called Matthiessen Lake and the Vermillion River flows along the southern part of the park.

Further Insights The park is divided into
two main areas, the Dells area and the Vermillion River area. I would say the dells area is more scenic. This
area has the canyon and waterfalls. The falls coming out of the lake are really spectacular. If you go here it
is definitely worth going down into the canyon and hiking through it.
