Information
- Got its name from Indian legend, apparently a band of Illiniwek Indians were driven to the top of Starved Rock by Potawatami and Ottawa Indians. The Illiniwek were trapped and died of starvation, hence the name "Starved Rock".
- The area was inhabited by various Native American groups since around 8000 BC.

Further Insights
Starved Rock has got to be one of the most popular of Illinois Parks. One wouldn't expect to find such deep canyons in a state so flat. The place is awesome and the waterfalls are beautiful. The best time to see them is probably in the spring, when they should all have flowing water.
