Rock Cut State Park
Interesting
Information
- Got its name from when railroad construction crews blasted and cut through the rock to create a good path for the Kenosha-Rockford Railroad in 1859.
- Pierce Lake is named after Representative William Pierce who proposed the park.
- Pierce Lake is stocked with bluegill, redear sunfish, largemouth bass, bullhead, channel catfish, walleye, pike, and musky.
- Beach on Olson Lake has been closed consistently due to problems with a nasty strain of E. Coli.
- There is an Indian legend that at the big lone rock near the Pierce Lake Dam, a grieved maiden jumped off to her death while singing because her husband had fallen in battle. They say you can still see her moving about the rock in the moonlight.

Further Insights
Rock Cut has some cool spots. I especially like the varied topography of the area below Pierce Lake Dam. There are some nice trails that go through the woods and around the creek, as well as the giant rock that you can climb up on. Both Pierce and Olson Lake have decent fishing. Pierce Lake seems to have alot of carp, which isn't really good for the lake, but they are fun to catch.
